I found this to be a very good initiative to promote good values: The Pride of Australia Medal. It is an initiative started by The Sunday Times, so a broad range of people is addressed. I was very pleased to read the categories: Bravery, Courage, Community Spirit, Young Aussie, Mateship, Fair Go, Environment, Peace, True Blue and Role Model.

Finally a system that honors more than just profit and shareholder value. Seems like the thinking in Oz is not just materialistic, otherwise a big publisher wouldn't start such an initiative.
