Clearing out thought patterns 2007/07/03 22:55
Hey guys,

the discovery of my day about clearing out old and blocking thought patterns:

* a positive attitude towards the negative emotion is very valuable and beneficial. Buddhists and some Christians say that we confuse positive states with negative ones. Give that idea a chance - don't fight negative emotions, that just makes them stronger. Allow them to happen and allow them to be perceived as positive.

* an aroused energy level of the body is helpful to allow yourself to be open for a pattern (eg. after you had a coffee, climbed up stairs or after a mentally demanding task)

* according to an article about "Why Meditation Works", says that naming the emotion helps to work through it as well (check out links => Personal Growth => Brain Scans Reveal Why Meditation Works)

* to foster a transformed thought pattern, try to think about the positive aspects of it as often as possible! Sense how it feels, breath into it, enjoy it

...and write down what you transformed!! (eg. "I transformed the thought pattern of pride, because I realized that pride has as its essence fear. This fear was telling me that if I gave in in such and such situation, I would in turn have to admit failure [for example] and I would be separate from others. But firstly it is not possible to be separate from others, we are all equal, no matter of our qualifications. Secondly fear is an illusion. As soon as a fear shows up I can be sure that my ego it playing tricks on me. Thirdly, even if I give in, it is a great feeling of letting go, there is no fighting any more. It is nonsense to identify myself with what I achieved and with my skills. I am. That's the only truth about me, nothing more and nothing less. So there is no point sticking to pride.
