God or No-God? 2007/07/26 00:04
Hello over there,

personally I feel very drawn to Buddhism. The teachings make sense, they are "spot on" regarding the wisdom, understanding and disciplining of the mind.
Some things thou don't resonate with me. Buddhism says there is nothing like the final creator - there is no ultimate God. We are creating everything from our own mind. The mind on its primal level though doesn't experience separation. Everything is one on this final level. To reach this level, we have to study and practice and contribute life after life after life to escape the ever turning wheel of Samsara and to find enlightenment and leave suffering behind us.

Some New-Age literature thou makes sense, too. Yes, there is a God and we humans are equipped with skills just as this God. We create our world. We are loved, always, no matter what we do - there is no escape from this love, unless we choose to close our eyes and hearts -a state that most of us are in unfortunately. Whereas Buddhism's approach is to generate loving kindness within oneself, this Christian approach says that love is always there, we just need to open up for it. Well, yes, in the end it is the same, the roads are just different. The Dalai Lama always emphasizes to stay with the religion of the own culture - the culture is the starting point and the culture's religion is the road to the promised love - the final destination.

A mix between Buddhism and New Age Christianity would be interesting. Maybe it already exists, namely "A Course in Miracles". It doesn't work very much for me thou.

What are the roads from other religions? What does the promised land look like? Is it love, bliss, unity or simply the escape from suffering or evil?
All is without your mind
