Amsterdam - More than 400 students on Thursday participated in a special laughing-meditation session on the city market of Delft.

Delft, a medieval town south of Den Haag and world famous for its blue-and-white earthenware, is also the home town of the prestigious Delft Technical University.

The laughing-meditation session was part of the university's introduction week for freshmen students. A total of 415 new students participated in the Thursday's session.

"The idea of laughing meditation is to laugh even when there is nothing to laugh about," a student explained. "It is very relaxing."

The general public present at the market, the heart of the shopping area in the old city centre, also participated in the session.

The session was led by a special laughing teacher.

It was the second time the university organised the laughing meditation session. Last time, 63 students participated. - Sapa-DPA
